Este artigo busca refletir sobre aspectos sociais e simbólicos a partir da biblioteca pessoal do cardeal dom Lucas Moreira Neves (1925-2002), ex-prefeito da Congregação dos Bispos, arcebispo, primaz do Brasil e ex-presidente da Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil (CNBB). O artigo avança em questões que concernem à subjetividade da biblioteca, a partir dos conceitos de lugar de memória e legado no campo da memória social. Trata de um estudo que busca identificar os agentes responsáveis pela organização e criação dessa biblioteca pessoal, bem como as condições sociais e simbólicas na constituição desse acervo. Identifica uma projeção da biblioteca por parte dos agentes envolvidos que lançam esses livros à imagem intelectual do religioso. Constata que tal projeção sobre os livros é empregada pelo titular, pelos herdeiros dessa memória e pelos atuais custodiadores desse acervo depositado no Memorial Cardeal dom Lucas.

This article seeks to reflect on social and symbolic aspects from the personal library of Cardinal dom Lucas Moreira Neves (1925-2002), former mayor of the Congregation of Bishops, archbishop, primate of Brazil and former president of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB). The article advances on issues concerning the subjectivity of the library, based on the concepts of place of memory and legacy in the field of social memory. It is a study that seeks to identify the agents responsible for the organization and creation of this personal library, as well as the social and symbolic conditions in the constitution of this collection. A projection of the library by the agents involved who launch these books to the intellectual image of the religious is identified. It appears that such projection on the books is employed by the holder, by the heirs of that memory and by the current custodians of this collection deposited at the Cardinal dom Lucas Memorial.
