Este artigo examina a relação entre multiplicidade e subjetividade à luz do pensamento de Henri Bergson, sobretudo nos capítulos iniciais do Ensaio sobre os dados imediatos da consciência (1889). Nessa obra, o filósofo concebe a noção de “duração” como multiplicidade qualitativa, diferente da multiplicidade quantitativa que caracteriza ao espaço. Essa diferenciação nos permitirá compreender dois aspectos da subjetividade – o “eu profundo” e o “eu superficial” – e como eles se relacionam com o problema da ação e da liberdade humana.

This article examines the relationship between multiplicity and subjectivity in the light of Henri Bergson's thinking, especially in the early chapters of the Essay on the Immediate Data of Consciousness (1889). In this work, the philosopher conceives the notion of "duration" as a qualitative multiplicity, different from the quantitative multiplicity that characterizes space. This differentiation will allow us to understand two aspects of subjectivity - the "deep self" and the "superficial self" - and how they relate to the problem of human action and freedom.
