As questões ambientais estão ligadas com a relação entre a sociedade e a natureza, assim, os estudos que envolvem os parques urbanos são fundamentais para saber como esses auxiliam no bem estar das pessoas. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo compreender a função e importância do Parque Ecológico Mata da Bica (PEMB) para a cidade de Formosa-GO, por meio de seus moradores e da administração municipal. Para tal, realizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica, trabalho de campo para o reconhecimento da área de estudo, registro fotográfico, observações in loco e entrevistas com a população local e o Secretário de Meio Ambiente do município, executadas nos meses de julho, agosto e setembro de 2015. A função do PEMB é validada através de várias perspectivas individuais e a sua importância é reconhecida pela população dentro dos contextos ecológico, social e paisagístico, além disso, de acordo com o poder público, o parque corresponde com a proteção da fauna, flora e recursos hídricos dentro do espaço urbano, representando uma quebra paisagística no ambiente da cidade, aproximando as pessoas da natureza.

The environmental matters are linked with the relationship between the society and the nature, like this, the studies that involve the urban parks are fundamental to know as those assist the well-being of the peoples. This research aimed to understand the role and importance of the Mata da Bica Ecological Park (MBEP) to the city of Formosa GO, through its residents and the municipal administration. To reach, was necessary to carry out bibliographical research and field research for the recognition of the study area, photographic record, in loco observations and interviews with the local population and the city's Secretary for the Environment, executed in July, August and September 2015. The function of the PEMB is validated through various individual prospects and its importance is recognized by the population within the ecological, social and landscape context, moreover, according to the government of the city, the park corresponds with the fauna, flora and water resources protection within the urban space, representing a break landscape in the city ambience, bringing people closer to nature.
