Este texto busca a reflexão dos aspectos socioeconômicos e ambientais do município de Cujubim, localizado na porção noroeste do Estado de Rondônia, visando demonstrar a influência das atividades humanas empregadas na região sobre os movimentos migratórios e do uso do solo. A pesquisa se deu por meio de levantamento de dados secundários, informações sociais oficiais, e obtenção de dados primários, por meio de entrevistas com 37 moradores das zonas urbana e 27 moradores da área rural, além de instituições públicas e privadas atuantes na região. A pesquisa ocorreu em outubro de 2014. Os questionários formulados contêm perguntas fechadas e abertas, visando obter informações subjetivas dos entrevistados que poderiam melhor qualificar as informações que, em geral, ficam escondidas num momento posterior de tabulação e análise de dados quantitativos. A análise concentra-se em três questões básicas amplamente discutidas no decorrer do texto: a) queda da extração de madeiras; b) conversão de florestas em pastagens; c) incremento de mecanização agrícola. A situação relatada é preocupante e segue a mesma linha de outros municípios de Rondônia e do contexto histórico da Amazônia, com a possível transição de atividade econômica entre a atividade madeireira que não é feita de forma sustentável, para a agropecuária e a pressão sobre os remanescentes florestais da região.

This text seeks to reflect the socio-economic and environmental aspects of the municipality of Cujubim, located in the northwestern portion of the state of Rondônia, aiming to demonstrate the influence of human activities undertaken in the region on migratory movements and land use. The research was done through the collection of secondary data, official social information, and obtaining primary data through interviews with 37 residents of urban areas and 27 residents of the rural area, as well as public and private institutions active in the region. The survey took place in October 2014. Questionnaires were formulated with closed and open questions to obtain subjective information of respondents who could better qualify the information that, in general, are hidden at a later stage of tabulation and analysis of quantitative data. The analysis focuses on three basic issues widely discussed throughout the text: a) fall timber extraction; b) conversion of forests to pasture; c) increase of agricultural mechanization. The reported situation is worrying and follows the same line of other municipalities of Rondonia and the history of the Amazon context, with the possible transition of economic activity between the logging that is not done in a sustainable way for agriculture and the pressure on the remaining forest in the region.
