A filosofia política vem assistindo a um acirrado debate em torno da noção de reconhecimento. Um crescente número de pesquisadores, de diversas áreas das ciências, debruça-se sobre esse conceito. Autores como Axel Honneth e Nancy Fraser são alguns dos muitos representantes que analisam esse tema em suas teorias. Porém, cada um analisa o reconhecimento em perspectivas diferentes. Fraser propõe um paradigma de reconhecimento assentado na acepção weberiana de status e assinala a importância da redistribuição de recursos materiais, defendendo que, em diversos casos, desigualdades sociais não estão calcadas em padrões simbólicos de não-reconhecimento. Honneth, por sua vez, alega adotar uma visão mais ampla de reconhecimento, que não se restringiria à dimensão cultural da justiça, encampando os aspectos econômicos. O autor alemão coloca o conflito social como objeto central da teoria critica, pois para ele a base da interação e o conflito é o próprio conceito de reconhecimento. Mas, qual a relevância deste tema para o debate acerca da justiça? Que motivos levaram Honneth e Fraser a fazer esta análise das sociedades contemporâneas? Como mediar a categoria reconhecimento numa sociedade multifacetária como a nossa? São perguntas como estas que o presente artigo irá responder.

The Political philosophy has seen a fierce debate around the notion of recognition. A growing number of researchers from various fields of Science, focuses on this concept. Authors such as Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser are among the many representatives who analyze this issue in their theories. However, each of them analyzes recognition from different perspectives. Fraser proposes a paradigm for recognition laid in the Weberian sense of status and notes the importance of redistribution of material, arguing that in many cases, social inequalities are not modeled on symbolic patterns of non-recognition. Honneth, in turn, claims to adopt a broader view of recognition, that would not be restricted to the cultural dimension of justice and it would include the economic aspects as well. The German author places the conflict as the central object of critical theory, since for him the basis of interaction and conflict is concept of recognition itself. But, what is the relevance of this topic for the debate about justice? What reasons led Honneth and Fraser to do this analysis of contemporary societies? How to mediate the category of recognition in a multifaceted society like ours? These are questions that this article will answer.
