As condições vulneráveis que as mulheres eram submetidas, nos tempos de Jesus são visíveis nos escritos sinóticos e no evangelho joanino. Um exemplo é o que relata João no episódio da Samaritana, sobre a admiração dos discípulos quando retornam da cidade e encontram Jesus falando com uma mulher, todavia nenhum lhe diz palavra alguma (cf. Jo 4. 27). A atitude dos discípulos reflete o desprezo dos judeus pelos samaritanos, sobretudo a atitude machista com relação às mulheres. Quando elas se encontravam em ambientes públicos, passavam despercebidas e as regras do decoro proibiam um homem de se encontrar sozinho com uma mulher. “Devia-se evitar olhar para uma mulher casada e até mesmo cumprimentá-la” (cf. Jeremias, 1983, p. 474). No diálogo com a mulher samaritana, a iniciativa partiu de Jesus. Com certeza uma postura que não seria da mulher. Ela tinha ciência de sua inferioridade social e das barreiras que a impediam de interagir espontaneamente.

Vulnerable conditions that women were subjected to, in times of Jesus can be seen in the Synoptic and John Gospel writings. An example is what John says in the episode of the Samaritan woman in admiration for the disciples, upon returning from the town and find Jesus talking to a woman, and yet no one says a word to him (cf. Jo 4:27). The attitude of the disciples reflects the contempt of the Jews by the Samaritans, especially the macho attitude towards women. When they were in public places, to go unnoticed, and the rules of decorum prohibited a man from find yourself alone with a woman. "He had to avoid looking at a married woman and even greet her "(cf. Jeremías, 1983, p. 474). In dialogue with the Samaritan woman, the initiative came from Jesus. Without a doubt, a position that would not be the woman. She was aware of their inferiority and social barriers that prevent spontaneous interaction.
