Introduction: present study approaches the sustainable consumption based on an analysis of the factors that motivate its practice. Objective: to identify the motivations, influences and practices that propel the sustainable consumption of consumers in the Guará II administrative region. Methods: this is a case study of a cross-sectional qualitative approach. Result: the analysis of data indicates that the motivations that propel sustainable consumption practices are quality and the health aspect associated with these products. However, the prices of these products and their availability are the main barriers that hinder the adoption of this buying behavior. Conclusion: despite the significant number of individuals who claim to consume sustainable products and support this practice for the preservation of natural resources, it is necessary to intensify the participation of this preservation, since, according to the results, sustainable consumption is a sporadic practice in the day to day life of most consumers, and that alone isn’t enough for these features to be available to future generations.
