O objetivo do artigo é a elaboração de análise do conceito de Desenvolvimento Sustentável sob a ótica do pesquisador e jurista Juarez Freitas, descrita e debatida em sua obra Sustentabilidade: direito ao futuro, bem como os impactos no estudo da dimensão econômica, o qual quase sempre está presente em qualquer definição de sustentabilidade que se queira utilizar. Fez assim, para atingir esse objetivo, breve descrição panorâmica da evolução histórica conceitual da sustentabilidade, desde a década de 1970, até o surgimento da definição mais universalmente aceita, publicada no relatório Nosso Futuro Comum, em 1987. Destaca-se também a repercussão desse trabalho sobre a Conferência Rio-92 e as que se seguiram depois, encerrando com uma avaliação particular das premissas balizadoras da dimensão econômica segundo a ótica do Desenvolvimento Sustentável presente no ideário desse pesquisador.
The aim of this paper is to elaborate the analysis of the concept of sustainable
development from the perspective of the researcher and jurist Juarez Freitas, described
and discussed in his book Sustainability: the right to future, as well as the impacts on the
study of the economic dimension, which almost always is present in any definition of
sustainability that it is possible to use. To achieve this goal, it was made a brief overview
description of the historical evolution of the concept of sustainability, since the 1970’s,
until the emergence of the most universally accepted definition, published in the report
Our Common Future in 1987. Also it is highlighted the impact of this work on the Rio-92
Conference and which that followed after, ending with (a) particular premises landmark
of the economic dimension from the viewpoint of sustainable development in the ideals
of this researcher
