Esse artigo tem por objetivo apresentar a história de constituição das três principais entidades representativas dos/as assistentes sociais (e estudantes de Serviço Social), as quais sejam: Associação Brasileira de Ensino e Pesquisa em Serviço Social – ABEPSS, Conselho Federal de Serviço Social – CFESS (juntamente com os Conselhos Regionais de Serviço Social) e Executiva Nacional de Estudantes de Serviço Social – ENESSO. O presente estudo consiste em uma revisão de literatura, utilizando como metodologia o levantamento bibliográfico. Considerando a existência de vários projetos profissionais em disputa no campo do Serviço Social, os espaços dessas entidades representativas são estrategicamente disputados e ocupados. Eles representam lugar de defesa e disseminação de valores, princípios e diretrizes que tem incidência, não apenas junto à categoria profissional dos/as assistentes sociais, mas perante o conjunto da sociedade. Por isso, faz-se necessário que nossa categoria profissional conheça a trajetória de lutas que permitiu a consolidação desses espaços e os fortaleça, ampliando cada vez mais o seu envolvimento e a sua participação nessas esferas.

This article aims to present the history of the constitution of the three main representative entities of social workers (and students of Social Work), which are: Brazilian Association of Teaching and Research in Social Work - ABEPSS, Federal Council of Social Work - CFESS (together with the Regional Councils of Social Work) and National Executive of Students of Social Work - ENESSO. The present study consists of a review of the literature, using as methodology the bibliographic survey. Considering the existence of several professional projects in dispute in the field of Social Work, the spaces of these representative entities are strategically disputed and occupied. They represent a place of defense and dissemination of values, principles and guidelines that have an impact not only on the professional category of social workers but also on society as a whole. Therefore, it is necessary that our professional category knows the path of struggles that allowed the consolidation of these spaces and strengthens them, increasing more and more their involvement and participation in these spheres.
