O estudo analisa a formação do professor de dança e o currículo proposto pelo curso de Artes Cênicas e Dança da Universidade Estadual do Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) desde a sua implantação, em 2010, até sua reformulação, em 2014. Realizado por meio da análise de documentos (Projeto Pedagógico do Curso de Artes Cênicas e Dança da UEMS, Atas de reuniões e Matriz Curricular do Curso), apre- senta a implantação e a estrutura do curso. Relata as atividades e ações propostas durante os seus quatro primeiros anos de existência e reflete sobre a formação dos professores no âmbito dessa proposta. Traz um breve histórico dos cursos de graduação em dança no país e destaca a importância da formação docente para que o artista possa atuar como professor. Conclui que a Educação e a Arte são campos de conhecimento pelos quais transita o professor de Arte/Dança na escola e que ter o professor bem formado é uma das condições para a melhoria do ensino da Arte nas escolas

The study analyzes the formation of a dance teacher and the curriculum proposed by the course of Performing Arts and Dance at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) since its inception in 2010 until its reformulation in 2014. Developed by analyzing documents (Education Program Course for the Performing Arts and Dance of UEMS, minutes of meetings and curriculum of the course), presents the implementation and structure of the course. Reports the activities and actions proposed during its first four years of existence and reflects on teacher training under this proposal. Presents a brief history of dance in undergraduate courses in the country and highlights the importance of teacher training so that the artist can act as a teacher. Concludes that the Education and Art are fields of knowledge through which transits Professor of Art / Dance in school and have well trained teacher is one of the conditions for improving art education in schools.
