A experiência com o sagrado é um fenômeno vivenciado pelo fiel e que dificilmente pode ser explicitado. Além de mobilizar a alma do sujeito, que permanecerá insondável ao olhar do pesquisador, a religiosidade deixa marcas sobre os corpos dos fiéis. Gestos e atitudes são incorporados para tomar parte de uma determinada comunidade religiosa e de seus cultos.
O presente artigo investiga a influência da religião católica sobre os gestos e posturas de professoras e de suas alunas no Colégio Progresso Campineiro, um internato feminino criado em 1900. Apesar do projeto educacional da escola ser idealizado por leigos, o ensino religioso se torna um aspecto importante para a formação moral das jovens, adequando sua conduta às expectativas da sociedade para as futuras mães e esposas da nação recém-proclamada republicana.

The experience of the sacred is a phenomenon experienced by the faithful and which can hardly be explained. Besides mobilizing the soul of the individual, which remains impenetrable to the gaze of the researcher, religiosity leaves marks on the bodies of the faithful. Gestures and attitudes are incorporated by people to take part in a particular religious community and its services.
This article investigates the influence of Catholicism on the gestures and attitudes of teachers and their students in the Colégio Progresso Campineiro, a boarding female created in 1900. Despite the school's educational project is conceived by the laity, religious education becomes an important aspect for the moral formation of young people, adjusting their behavior to societal expectations for mothers and wives of the nation's newly proclaimed republic.
