Objetivou-se analisar o gerenciamento dos resíduos de serviços de saúde (RSS), sob a ótica ambiental, numa sala de parto pertencente a uma unidade secundária de saúde. Estudo de caráter descritivo-analítico com abordagem quanti-qualitativa. Realizado na unidade de parto, em um hospital público de referência no atendimento materno-infantil, na cidade de Fortaleza, Ceará. A amostra foi constituída por 13 funcionários que obedeceram aos critérios de inclusão. A coleta de dados foi por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, e os dados submetidos à análise de conteúdo. Durante a observação das etapas do gerenciamento verificou-se: segregação do lixo de forma errada, recipiente inadequado, armazenamento temporário disposto no chão do hospital, paramentação incompleta da funcionária de serviços gerais e por fim, o armazenamento externo do lixo fica a céu aberto, em contato com o ambiente, sem recipientes com simbologia que pudessem armazená-los até o momento de ser coletado pela empresa terceirizada responsável.

The objective of this study was to analyze the management of health care waste (SSR), from an environmental perspective, in a delivery room belonging to a secondary health unit. Descriptive-analytical study with a quantitative-qualitative approach. Performed in the delivery unit, in a public referral hospital in maternal and child care, in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. The sample consisted of 13 employees who met the inclusion criteria. The data collection was through semistructured interview, and the data submitted to content analysis. During the observation of the management stages, the following occurred: garbage segregation in the wrong way, inadequate container, temporary storage on the hospital floor, incomplete paramentation of the general services official and finally, the external storage of garbage is open, in contact with the environment, without symbology containers that could store them until the moment of being collected by the responsible outsourced company.
