This article revises and synthesizes the existent historiography about left-wing armed organizations in the River Plate’s sixties and seventies, from a perspective that intertwines gender, family and sexuality with politics. The article centers its focus on the ways in which sociocultural modernization processes regarding family and sexuality challenged the Left, producing ambivalences and disputes which interwove the personal and the political. The first part of the article deals with new conceptions and practices regarding sexuality and family in the half-century, change and continuity. The second part analyzes some of the most relevant papers about left-wing armed organizations in Argentina and Uruguay, from the perspective of sexuality, family and gender. The article seeks to highlight the complexity of some of the approaches and theoretical frames used, and to map a recent research agenda, which contributes new perspectives on the global sixties.

Este artículo propone una revisión y síntesis crítica de la producción historiográfica sobre las izquierdas armadas de los sesenta y setenta en el Río de la Plata desde una perspectiva de historia del género, la familia y la sexualidad en relación a lo político. El foco está puesto en la manera en que los procesos de modernización sociocultural de la familia y la sexualidad interpelaron al campo de las izquierdas, produciendo ambivalencias y disputas que entrelazaron lo personal y lo político. La primera sección del artículo aborda las concepciones y prácticas en torno a la sexualidad y la familia a mediados de siglo. La segunda parte analiza algunos de los trabajos más relevantes acerca de las izquierdas armadas en Argentina y Uruguay. El artículo pone de relieve la creciente complejidad en los abordajes y marcos teóricos utilizados, y traza el mapa de una agenda de investigación en ciernes.
