O artigo reflete sobre o significado do gesto do Papa Francisco de rezar no túmulo de Pio X em estado de convalescência e desvestido dos trajes papais no final de sua existência. A reflexão rejeita a interpretação de um gesto casual e assume hipótese da intencionalidade do Papa de expor o confronto entre os símbolos da fraqueza e da força, do conflito e da comunhão. Fraqueza e força podem ser encarnadas pelos respectivos pontífices e seus projetos eclesiais de reforma e preservação. Ao mesmo tempo entende a visita como reveladora do significado do diálogo que supera os isolamentos e as prepotências que caracterizaram os opositores de seu pontificado. Esses significados inferidos do gesto podem representar, simbolicamente, o que Francisco assumiu como postura e ensinamento ao longo de seu pontificado reformador.
This article reflects on the meaning of Pope Francis’ gesture of praying at the tomb of Pius X, who was convalescing and taking off his papal robes at the end of his life. The reflection rejects the interpretation of a casual gesture and assumes the hypothesis of the Pope’s intention to expose the confrontation between the symbols of weakness and strength, of conflict and communion. Weakness and strength can be embodied by the respective pontiffs and their ecclesiastical projects of reform and preservation. At the same time, it understands the visit as revealing the meaning of dialogue that overcomes the isolation and arrogance that characterized the opponents of his pontificate. These meanings inferred from the gesture can symbolically represent what Francis assumed as a stance and teaching throughout his reforming pontificate.
