A série The handmaid’s tale apresenta como ponto central a questão da condição da mulher em um futuro no qual aparece completamente subjugada, compartilha-se com a audiência de maneira bastante clara a questão de gênero. Este estudo busca analisar as representações da mulher e também do homem na obra ficcional, norteando-se pelos personagens June/Offred e o Comandante Fred Waterford. A metodologia aqui empreendida baseia-se na mitocrítica proposta por Gilbert Durand (1985) e em perspectivas advindas da sua teoria geral do imaginário. Por exemplo, o mapeamento de elementos míticos presentes nas narrativas que mostram a presença dos mitos apolíneo e dionisíaco norteando o imaginário da série, em momento seguinte, detém-se na lição mítica do último mito referente a representação dos excessos e seus efeitos na construção das personagens.

The handmaid’s tale series presents the woman's condition in a future in which she appears completely subdued; where the issue of gender is clearly shared with the audience. This one study seeks to analyze the representations of women and men in this fictional work, guided by the characters June/Offred and Commander Fred Waterford. The methodology undertaken here is based on the mythocritics proposed by Gilbert Durand and in perspectives from his general theory of the imaginary. For example, the mapping of mythical elements present in the narratives that show the Apollonian and Dionysian myths guiding the imaginary of the series, in the next moment, dwells on the mythical lesson of the last myth concerning the representation of excess on character construction.
