This theoretical essay seeks to articulate a dissident sensibility grounded in the notion of joy as a critical lens for engaging with queer art, particularly cinema and audiovisual production. To this end, it draws on a brief philosophical genealogy of joy. Queer joy is conceived primarily through the philosophies of Spinoza, Nietzsche, and Muniz Sodré, in dialogue with the theoretical contributions of Sara Ahmed, and finds its central inspiration in an affective mode of approaching the aesthetic proposals of queer audiovisual works. In this context, certain scenic recurrences emerge that bring together five elements: energy, gratuitousness, collectivity, laughter, and music. Through these elements, distributed in different ways from image to image, the affect of joy takes shape and may contribute to the interpretation, description, and analysis of images and sounds.
