O ADJETIVO NA ORIENTAÇÃO ARGUMENTATIVA DO DISCURSO: A PROPOSTA DA SEMÂNTICA ARGUMENTATIVA

O objetivo central deste trabalho é mostrar como certos adjetivos e expressões
adjetivais atuam sobre os substantivos, aumentando ou diminuindo sua força argumentativa e
participando, de modo decisivo, na estruturação global dos discursos. Propõe-se um estudo
lingüístico do sentido, tomando como referencial teórico a Semântica Argumentativa de
Oswald Ducrot e colaboradores. Fazendo um percurso pelas diversas formas que a teoria
tomou, chega-se à conclusão de que a Semântica Argumentativa mantém na fase atual, a
Teoria dos Blocos Semânticos (TBS), os mesmos fundamentos propostos na sua fase inicial e,
mais do que isso, radicaliza na defesa de que “só o discurso é doador de sentido”. O corpus
tomado para análise é uma reportagem publicada na Folha de São Paulo, em outubro de 2008.
Aplicam-se os construtos teóricos da TBS, a fim de verificar as argumentações evocadas pelas
entidades lingüísticas e a posição do locutor frente aos enunciadores.

Resumo Inglês:

The main goal of this work is to show the way some adjectives as well as adjectival
expressions act upon nouns: they increase or reduce their argumentative force and they take
part very positively in the global structure of discourse. We propose a linguistic study on the
meaning, following Ducrot’s ideas on Argumentative Semantics and some concepts of other
researchers. We go through the various forms the theory presents until the moment and we get
to the conclusion that Argumentative Semantics holds in the current phase, the Semantic
Theory of Blocks (TBS), the same basis as the one proposed in the beginning. Besides, it
reinforces the saying that “discourse is the only donor of meaning”. The corpus taken as
analysis is a newspaper report published at “Folha de São Paulo” (October, 2008). We apply
theoretical constructors of TBS in order to verify argumentations evoked by linguistic entities
as well as the position of the speaker in face of enunciators.
