Este artigo analisa o romance O grande Gatsby, de Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, e a adaptação cinematográfica homônima (2013), dirigida por Baz Luhrmann. Baseando-se principalmente nos estudos de Gérard Genette e Robert Stam, para tratar da intermidialidade, e de Zygmunt Bauman, para discutir a sociedade do século XXI, serão avaliadas as escolhas do diretor, no processo de adaptação, de modo a demonstrar a relevância desses elementos para os contextos contemporâneos social e artístico.

This article analyzes the romance The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, and the homonymous cinematographic adaptation (2013), directed by Baz Luhrmann. Basing mainly on Gérard Genette and Robert Stam’s studies, to treat of the intermediality relationships, and on Zygmunt Bauman, to discuss the society of the 21st century, the director's choices will be appraised, in the adaptation process, in way to demonst trate the relevance of those elements for the contemporary social and artistic contexts.
