O Movimento Universitário de Desfavelamento (MUD), ativo entre 1961 e 1967, foi formado por estudantes da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) com o objetivo de eliminar as favelas de São Paulo. Ao contextualizar o MUD entre as ações assistencialistas dos anos anteriores e os debates na Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da USP (FAUUSP), pretende-se discutir iniciativas pouco estudadas na história da urbanização de favelas em São Paulo, recuperando as políticas, os atores e as instituições envolvidas no tema entre as décadas de 1950 e 1970, de maneira a acompanhar as mudanças nas abordagens sobre as favelas nas cidades latino-americanas.
The University Movement for Favela Removal (MUD), active between 1961 and 1967, was formed by students from the University of São Paulo (USP) with the goal of eliminating favelas (slums) in São Paulo. By contextualizing MUD among the charitable actions of previous years and the debates at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of USP (FAUUSP), this study aims to discuss little-studied initiatives in the history of favela urbanization in São Paulo, recovering the policies, actors, and institutions involved in the topic between the 1950s and 1970s, in order to track changes in approaches to favelas in Latin American cities.
