O artigo trata do inspetor distrital do Estado de São Paulo instituÃdo pela reforma da instrução
pública de 1892/1893 e extinto pela reforma de 1897. Tem como objetivo central contribuir para os
estudos relativos à  sistemática de direção e inspeção adotada em São Paulo com vistas à  instalação da
escola pública moderna e republicana. A partir da perspectiva weberiana, foram examinados os
documentos legais e normativos que fixaram o cargo na hierarquia administrativa da instrução pública
paulista, bem como suas atribuições e os critérios para seu recrutamento.
Resumo Inglês:
The article deals with the district inspector of the State of São Paulo set up by the reform of public
education in 1892/1893 and abolished by the reform of 1897. Its main objective is to contribute to
studies on the inspection and direction systems adopted in Sao Paulo to install the modern and
republican public school. From the Weberian perspective, the regulations and legal documents that
set the position of the district inspector in the administrative hierarchy of public education in São
Paulo were examined, as well as duties and criteria for recruitment.
