Este artigo pretende analisar a importância do patrimônio histórico na sociedade
atual, e o crescimento no número de bens arrolados como patrimônio histórico. Além disso,
discutiremos a importância das relações entre patrimônio e memória no ocidente. Em sua
segunda parte, busca mostrar o processo de inscrição da “Igrejinha†Martin Luther como
Prédio de Interesse Sócio-Cultural, no municÃpio de Porto Alegre, e quais caminhos foram
utilizados, além de um breve histórico do prédio e de seus usos. Em seguida, discutiremos
como este movimento para “salvar†a Igrejinha faz parte das polÃticas de patrimonialização
correntes.

This paper analyzes the importance of heritage in today's society, and growth in the
number of property listed as historic landmarks. In addition, we discuss the importance of the
relationship between heritage and memory in the West. In its second part, seeks to show the
process of registration of the "small church" as Martin Luther Building socio-cultural, the city
of Porto Alegre along with a brief history of the building and its uses. Next, we discuss how
this movement to "save" the little church is part of the heritage policies currents.
