This work investigates how Amazon gold mining is portrayed in the contemporary novel Eu receberia as piores notícias dos seus lindos lábios [I would receive the worst news from your beautiful lips] (2005), by Marçal Aquino, highlighting the violence triggered by the gold rush and the resistance attempt from the female figure. The Brazilian author makes use of his journalistic experience and recreates the scenario of the golden cycle in a small countryside village in the state of Pará, marked by economic progress and social inequality. The methodology employed in this research is bibliographic, and its theoretical basis can be found in the works of Antonio Candido (2006), Karl Erik Schøllhammer (2009), Tânia Pellegrini (2004), Letícia Tedesco (2014), among others. Results show that the mining of Amazonian gold and the violence it entails are the guiding threads for plot development in the novel, given that they directly intervene in the actions of the characters.
