In this study, photo-interpretation of tree and shrub vegetation was carried out in parts of the municipalities of Cruz Alta, Pejuçara, Ijuí, Tupanciretã, Augusto Pestana and Júlio de Castilhos, between the coordinates of 53 ° 30 'and 54 ° 00 'of Longitude Oeste and 28 ° 30' and 28 ° 57 'of Latitude South, for the years 1964 and 1974, in order to verify the intensity of deforestation in that region. From the data of the interpretation of vertical aerial photos and orbital images, calculations were carried out to determine the intensity of the arboreal and shrub reduction occurred in a period of ten years.
