O trabalho é resultante do projeto de pesquisa “A formação do MunicÃpio Pedagógico e a
descentralização do ensino no Brasil: análise de alguns municÃpios de Minas Gerais no inÃcio da
República (1889Â1906)”, financiado por CNPq e FAPEMIG. Iniciado com o municÃpio de
Uberabinha (Uberlândia), foi ampliado e passou a incluir mais quatro cidades mineiras na pesquisa –
Belo Horizonte, Juiz de Fora, Uberaba e Araguari. Juiz de Fora será privilegiada neste trabalho,
utilizando categorias comuns de análise, para se aquilatar as proximidades e os distanciamentos na
formação do municÃpio pedagógico nas diferentes localidades do estado. O limite temporal
estabelecido compreende o perÃodo entre 1889 e 1906, abrangendo desde o inÃcio da República até
a reforma João Pinheiro, que institui o sistema de grupos escolares no estado, abrindo caminho para
uma nova fase na educação mineira. A educação será abordada como tema central e analisada na sua
relação com o subtema higiene, tão propalado no perÃodo abordado por este trabalho e sobre o qual
foram alicerçadas as bases da educação nacional e, como não poderia deixar a ser, a juizdeforense.
The work is a result of the project of research. “The formation of the Pedagogic County and the
decentralization of the teaching in Brazil: analysis of some counties of Minas Gerais in the beginning
of the Republic(1889Â1906)” supported by CNPq and FAPEMIG. It was started with the county of
Uberabinha (Uberlândia), it was enlarged and it included four more towns of Minas Gerais in the
research Â Belo Horizonte, Juiz de Fora, Uberaba and Araguari. Juiz de Fora will be priviledged in this
work, using common categories of analysis, in order to examine closely the proximity and the distance
in the formation of the pedagogic county in the different places of the state. The temporal limit
stablished is the period between 1889 and 1906, it includes since the beginning of the Republic until
the João Pinheiro reform, that institutes the system of school groups in the state, suggesting a new
stage in the education in Minas Gerais. Education will be approached as the central subject and
analysed in its relation with the subtopic hygiene, so spread abroad in the period approached by this
work and on it the bases of the national education were founded and, also the one from Juiz de Fora.
