A discussão em torno da diáspora africana na Bahia tem desvelado experiências riquÃssimas no que diz respeito ao mundo escravista. Especialmente no século XIX, a Vila de Maraú, no sul baiano, abrigava práticas de sociabilidades no mundo cotidiano dos escravos – livres e libertos pobres da vila – e além de organizarem festas como o Cucumbi e o Mandu, também construÃram uma capela onde os negros pudessem frequentar, assim como irmandades de Nossa Senhora do Rosário e de São Benedito. É sobre essas experiências étnicas africanas ressignificadas no Oitocentos que este artigo se ocupa em discutir.

The argument around the African Diaspora in Bahia has uncovered ample experiences in what concerns the slavery world. Specially in the nineteenth century, the town in the southern Bahia, Maraú harbored practices of sociabilities in the routine world of the slaves – free and liberated poor men of the town – and beyond will organize parties as the Cucumbi and the Mandu, built a chapel where the black people could frequent and fraternities of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and São Benedito. It is about those African ethnic experiences resignified in the nineteenth century that this article is occupied in discuss.
