O presente artigo objetiva analisar a cobertura efetuada pelo periódico impresso Diário Catarinense acerca da enchente que ocorreu no sul de Santa Catarina, em especial, no município de Araranguá, entre os dias 2 e 4 de janeiro de 2009. Elenca-se a utilização do conceito de Desastre Socioambiental, para refletir criticamente sobre a ênfase dada pela cobertura do Diário Catarinense aos fatores naturais como causa preponderante para a ocorrência da enchente. Por fim, objetiva-se propor uma perspectiva de estudo que articule tanto os fatores da natureza (precipitação atmosférica) quanto as ações e os componentes humanos que atuaram para potencializar os impactos da enchente (desmatamentos e ocupação de áreas de risco).
This article aims to analyze the coverage carried out by the printed newspaper Diário Catarinense about the flood that occurred in the south of Santa Catarina, in particular, in the city of Araranguá, between the 2nd and 4th of January 2009. The use of the concept of Socio-Environmental Disaster is listed, in order to reflect critically on the emphasis given by the Diário Catarinense coverage to natural factors as the preponderant cause for the occurrence of the flood. And, propose a study perspective that articulates both natural factors (atmospheric precipitation) and human actions and components that acted to enhance the flood impacts (deforestation and occupation of risk areas).
