“TEMPLO DO BEM”: O GRUPO ESCOLAR DE UBERABA, NA ESCOLARIZAÇÃO REPUBLICANA (1908 – 1918)

Trata-se de comunicar os resultados da investigação na temática da História das Instituições
Educacionais, focada no Grupo Escolar de Uberaba, o primeiro criado nesta cidade mineira e
em funcionamento até os dias atuais. A hermenêutica da pesquisa comportou questionamento
sobre a identidade histórica dessa instituição no período de 1908 a 1918. A investigação foi
desenvolvida a partir das seguintes categorias de análise: a motivação para criação e instalação
do Grupo, aspectos relativos ao espaço físico do prédio, o perfil discente e docente e o cotidiano
escolar. A heurística contou com documentos oriundos principalmente, do Arquivo Público
Mineiro e da imprensa local. Os dados obtidos foram interpretados a partir das categorias de
análise explicitadas, com a consideração, em especial, das relações reflexivas entre o particular –
o Grupo, a cidade de Uberaba – e o geral, o contexto histórico-escolar e social do país, durante
a Primeira República. Em síntese, pôde-se observar que esta escola historicamente teve, por um
lado, suas singularidades, mas por outro, foi veículo propagador de ideais próprios dessa fase
republicana, os quais foram nacionalmente divulgados.

It concerns to communicate the results of the investigation in the theme of History of Educational
Institutions, aiming at the Uberaba School Group, the first established in Uberaba town and
which has been in activity these days. The research hermeneutics admits some questioning about
the historical identity of this Institution in the period of 1908 until 1918. The research was
carried out from the following analysis categories: the motivation for creation and establishment
of the Group, features related to the site construction area, the students and teachers’ profile, as
well as the school daily routine. The heuristics counted on the documents from the Minas Gerais
Public Archive and the local press. The data obtained were interpreted from the revealed analysis
categories with the special consideration of the reflexive relations between the private – the
Primary School, the city of Uberaba – and in general, the wider school historical and social
context of the country, during the First Republic. In short, it could be observed that this school historically had, for one side, its peculiarities, on the other band, it spread its own ideals from the
republican phase, which were nationally broadcast.
