O atendimento de pacientes internados por uma equipe multidisciplinar é cada vez mais frequente em hospitais. Em virtude disso, a Odontologia ganha reconhecimento frente às demais especialidades, criando a necessidade de implementação desta rotina com intuito de promover a saúde bucal e atuar na orientação da equipe de enfermagem sobre cuidados de higienização bucal dos pacientes internados. Este trabalho tem por objetivo relatar a experiência inicial de um projeto de extensão sobre os primeiros passos para a introdução de odontologia hospitalar em hospital público, a partir de aplicação de questionários específicos e palestras de instrução de higiene oral. Participaram da pesquisa dois tipos de voluntários: Grupo I: os pacientes internados e Grupo II: equipe de enfermagem (técnicos e supervisão) do HBCS, com o objetivo de avaliar, por meio de questionários, a autopercepção de saúde bucal, o grau de preocupação/procura de atendimento odontológico e, por meio de exame clínico, o estado de saúde bucal dos pacientes internados e também a rotina de cuidados relacionados à higiene oral realizada pelos técnicos de enfermagem para com os pacientes internados antes e depois de receberem treinamento. Conclui-se que há muitas barreiras para a implementação de rotina de odontologia em ambiente hospitalar, contudo, estas barreiras são positivas, pois a partir delas o projeto pode ser melhor adequado à realidade deste hospital.

The treatment of patients admitted by a multidisciplinary team is increasingly frequent in hospitals. For this reason, dentistry gains recognition in front of the other specialties. It is necessary to implement this routine with the intention of promoting oral health and acting in the orientation of the nursing team on the dental hygiene care of hospitalized patients. This article aims to report the extension project for introduction of hospital odontology in a public hospital, based on the application of specific questionnaires and lectures on oral hygiene instruction. The project was divided into two fronts: the Inpatient Group and the Nursing Team Group, with the objective of evaluating the self-perception of oral health, the degree of concern / demand for dental care and the state of oral health of hospitalized patients and also the care routine related to oral hygiene, performed by nursing technicians with patients hospitalized before and after receiving training. It is concluded that there are many barriers to the routine implementation of dentistry in the hospital environment, however, these barriers are positive, because starting by them the project may be better suited to the reality of this hospital.
