Este artigo pretende apresentar alguns aspectos historiográficos da espécie gallus gallus, sua provável origem na Ásia, onde, desde muito cedo, a antropização possibilitou sua domesticação e posteriormente sua difusão pelo mundo. Procurar-se-á, em seguida, fazer uma análise com base em pressupostos da história ambiental no que tange à prática das brigas de galos, seus aspectos legais e morais. Para isso, são trazidos depoimentos com vistas a um olhar mais relativista e menos dualista entre natureza e cultura, observando, assim, como se deu e se dá a interação entre os homens e os galos.
Th is article intend to presen tsome historiographical aspects of the species gallus gallus, it's probable origin in Asia, where, from very early, the anthropization made it possible their domestication and subsequent diffusion throughout the world. After that, it will be analyzed, based on assumptions of the environmental history regarding the practice of cockfights, its legal and moral aspects. To do this, are brought testimonials for the purpose of a more relativistic perspective, and less dualistic between nature and culture, observing, thus, how it was and how it is the interaction between men and roosters.
