O presente trabalho avaliou o nível de conhecimento das pacientes atendidas na Unidade Básica de Saúde Osvaldo Piana acerca dos benefícios do aleitamento materno e conhecimentos prévios da alimentação infantil, além do conhecimento dos profissionais de saúde que atendem na unidade. Metodologia: Estudo exploratório, transversal, descritivo de abordagem quantitativa. Foi aplicado um questionário após a assinatura do termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido que avaliou as pacientes quanto ao perfil socioeconômico, nível de conhecimento sobre aleitamento materno, local que receberam as informações e a qualidade destas, bem como os profissionais de saúde quanto os benefícios do aleitamento. Resultados: Participaram do estudo 47 mulheres gestantes ou com lactentes até os seis meses de idade, entretanto, apenas 39 se enquadravam nos critérios estabelecidos. A partir das análises foram observados que 35% das entrevistadas vivem com um salário mínimo, 39% possuem o ensino superior e 100% souberam afirmar sobre os benefícios da amamentação, no entanto, houve variações acerca da introdução de água, papinhas e outros alimentos. Com o levantamento, verifica-se que há um bom resultado na análise feita com as usuárias da unidade de saúde Osvaldo Piana, no entanto, ainda é necessário ampliar a oferta de instruções acerca do aleitamento para sanar as lacunas encontradas que podem se tornar barreiras para alcançar um atendimento integral e previnir doenças e agravos para a saúde infantil.

The present study evaluated the level of knowledge of patients seen at the Basic Health Unit Oswaldo Piana about the benefits of breastfeeding and previous knowledge of infant feeding, in addition to the knowledge of health professionals who attend the unit. Methodology: Exploratory, cross - sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. A questionnaire was applied after signing the informed consent form, which evaluated the patients regarding their socioeconomic profile, level of knowledge, location where they received the information and its quality, as well as health professionals regarding the benefits of breastfeeding. Results: The study included 47 pregnant women or women with infants up to six months of age, however, only 39 met the established criteria. From the analysis it was observed that 35% of the interviewees live with a minimum wage, 39% have higher education and 100% only affirm about the benefitsof breastfeeding, however, there were variations regarding the introduction of water, baby food and other foods. With the survey, it appears that there is a good result in the analysis made with the users of the health unit Osvaldo Piana, however, it is still necessary to expand the offer of instructions on breastfeeding to remedy the gaps found that can become barriers for achieve comprehensive care and prevent diseases and health problems for children.
