Estudo extraído de tese de doutorado que investigou a implementação dos Encontros Musicais,
estratégia grupal de cuidado que estimula a expressão musical e diálogos entre clientes em
tratamento de quimioterapia e seus familiares. Este recorte tem por objetivo analisar a função
da música no desenvolvimento dos encontros, a partir dos sentidos atribuídos pelos
participantes. A análise musical foi baseada nos níveis das experiências musicais e nos
espaços de identificação, desenvolvidos por Even Ruud. A pesquisa qualitativa foi desenvolvida
segundo a metodologia da Pesquisa Convergente-Assistencial. Os paricipantes foram 27
pacientes adultos em tratamento de quimioterapia em um hospital na cidade do Rio de janeiro e
seus familiares. As músicas escolhidas pelos participantes estiveram vinculadas aos níveis
sintático, semântico e pragmático. Os espaços de identificação dos sujeitos, de maior
relevância, foram o pessoal e o transpessoal, pois contribuíram para o desenvolvimento de
rede de apoio.

This study was extracted from a PhD thesis which investigated the implementation of Musical
Encounters, which is a group strategy of care that encourages musical expression and
dialogues between clients undergoing chemotherapy treatment and their families. Taking the
participants’ feelings and feedbacks as starting point, this study aims to analyze the role of
music during the development of the encounters. The musical analysis was based on levels of
musical experiences and spaces of identification developed by Even Ruud. The qualitative
research was conducted according to the Assistential-Convergent Research methodology. The
participants were 27 adults undergoing chemotherapy treatment at a hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro and their families. The songs chose by the participants were connected to syntactic,
semantic and pragmatic levels. The spaces of subject’s identification, considered of greater
relevance, were the personal and the transpersonal because of the contribution of these spaces
to the development of a support network.
