Cadelas e gatas gestantes apresentam alterações fisiológicas e metabólicas significativas que impactam a anestesia desses animais. A seleção e administração dos fármacos anestésicos requerem cautela, pois muitos ultrapassam a barreira placentária e podem causar depressão fetal. Durante a cesariana, seja eletiva ou distócica, os objetivos anestésicos são manter a estabilidade hemodinâmica, proporcionar analgesia de qualidade e garantir a viabilidade dos filhotes. Esta revisão aborda os principais cuidados no manejo anestésico e propõe o melhor protocolo anestésico para cesarianas em cadelas e gatas. Utilizando uma abordagem qualitativa, foram coletadas informações da literatura nacional e internacional dos últimos 20 anos, através de uma busca sistemática com descritores específicos. Os artigos selecionados fornecem embasamento para compreender os objetivos, riscos e particularidades da anestesia em cesarianas, fortalecendo a discussão dos cuidados e escolhas de protocolos dentro do contexto da anestesia obtétrica em cadelas e gatas.
Pregnant bitches and queens exhibit significant physiological and metabolic alterations that impact the anesthesia of these animals. The selection and administration of anesthetic drugs must be carried out with caution, as many of these drugs cross the placental barrier and can cause fetal depression. During cesarean section, whether elective or dystocic, the primary anesthetic goals include maintaining hemodynamic stability, providing quality analgesia, and ensuring the viability of the offspring. This review addresses the main considerations in anesthetic management and proposes the best anesthetic protocol for cesarean sections in bitches and queens. Utilizing a qualitative approach, information was collected from national and international literature over the past 20 years through a systematic search using specific descriptors. The selected articles provide a foundation for understanding the objectives, risks, and particularities of anesthesia in cesarean sections, strengthening the discussion on care and protocol choices within the context of obstetric anesthesia in bitches and queens.
