O presente artigo aborda o processo de literalização da história de Angola e a reconstrução da identidade nacional tendo como base o romance A geração da Utopia (1992), do autor angolano Pepetela. Examina a representação artística e a maneira como são dispostas dentro da narrativa as reflexões sobre o sentimento de pertencimento e a consciência política do povo durante o período de luta pela independência de Angola. A análise tem como finalidade a melhor compreensão do complexo processo de emancipação que viveu este país e como a literatura o incorporou em suas representações. Pretende-se ainda, evidenciar o aspecto autobiográfico que se faz presente na construção literária de Pepetela, de maneira que é analisado como elemento chave na construção ficcional do autor deixando em sua obra literária características de relato testemunhal. Assim, na tentativa de melhor compreender a estrutura textual apresentada pelo autor e a participação da literatura na conscientização política e libertação do país, são feitas algumas imersões na história de Angola a fim de elucidar o diálogo entre o histórico, o literário e o político em Pepetela.

This article deals with the process of literalizing the history of Angola and the reconstruction of the national identity based on the novel The Generation of Utopia (1992), by the Angolan author Pepetela. It examines the artistic representation and the way reflections on sense of belonging and the political awareness of the people during the period of struggle for Angola’s independence are arranged within the narrative. The purpose of the analysis is to better understand the complex emancipation process that has taken place in this country and how literature has incorporated it into its representations. It is also intended to highlight the autobiographical aspect that is present in the literary construction of Pepetela, so that it is analyzed as a key element in the fictional construction of the author leaving in his literary work characteristics of testimonial report. Thus, in an attempt to better understand the textual structure presented by the author and the participation of literature in political awareness and liberation of the country, some immersions are made in the history of Angola in order to elucidate the dialogue between the historical, the literary and the political in Pepetela.
