O dente decíduo é importante para o bom desempenho das funções mastigatórias, articulação, fonação e oclusão. As preocupações mediante a perda precoce de um dente decíduo consistem na perda de espaço, que poderá ocorrer no arco dentário e o dente permanente que irá erupcionar, podendo ficar impactado ou apresentar desvios em suas posições, gerando más-oclusões. O objetivo desse trabalho foi relatar um caso clínico com a sugestão de protocolo de instalação de mantenedor de espaço empregado na disciplina de Clínica Integrada Infantil da Universidade Severino Sombra. O arco lingual é de fácil confecção, baixo custo e tem um papel importante na prevenção de má-oclusão quando ocorre perda precoce dos dentes decíduos. Mantém o espaço existente para erupção dos dentes permanentes, previne a movimentação lingual dos incisivos inferiores permanentes e a movimentação mesial dos primeiros molares inferiores permanentes.
The primary teeth are extremely important for the development of good masticating, articulation, speech and occlusion. The main concern about losing a primary tooth is the loss of space, in which it could occur in the dental arch and the permeant teeth that is going to erupt, making the permeant teeth either impacted, or off occlusion. The meaning to this project is to come out with a clinic case with the suggestion of a space maintainer placement put together by the Integrated Children’s Clinic of the University Severino Sombra. The Nance lingual arch is an easy confection, low cost and plays a big rule in prevention of bad occlusion when the loss of primary of the teeth occurs. It leaves the space open for the permeant teeth to erupt, prevents the inferior incisors from shifting and the mesial movement of the lower permeant first premolars.
