O presente artigo visa apresentar histórico das pesquisas em Arqueologia
Histórica na Amazônia, desde o contexto etnohistórico sobre a chegada
de europeus na região e estabelecimento da ocupação até o século XIX no
médio Amazonas. O recorte aqui analisado é a região do Médio Amazonas,
no atual município de Santarém. Através de documentação histórica, relatos
de cronistas e viajantes, e investigações arqueológicas aqui são apresentadas
as transformações ocasionadas nas sociedades amazônicas a partir do contato
com um ideal colonizador pautado na dominação durante o período histórico,
ou de contato. Assim, as dinâmicas que contribuíram para a atual configuração
santarena e os encontros culturais que ali tiveram espaço são aqui percebidos
pelo olhar dialético em lugares persistentes às margens do encontro dos rios
Tapajós e Amazonas.
This article aims to present historical research in Historical Archeology
in the Amazon, arrival of europeans in the region and establishment of the
occupation until the XIXth century in the middle Amazon river. The clipping here
analyzed is the region of the Lower Amazon, in the present city of Santarém.
Through historical documentation and reports of chroniclers and travelers and
archaeological surveys, here are presented the transformations that have occurred
in the Amazonian societies from the contact with a colonizing ideal based on
the domination during the historical period, or contact period. Thus, the dynamics
that contributed to the current urban configuration of Santarém and cultural
meetings that had space there are perceived by the dialectical look at persistent
places on the banks of the encounter oh the Tapajós and Amazon river.
