Tendo em vista as transformações estéticas pelas quais passou a comédia clássica – da Comédia Antiga de Aristófanes à Comédia Nova de Menandro, passando pela Comédia Média –, procurar-se-á evidenciar na peça A Sogra (Hecyra), do comediógrafo latino Terêncio, traços consonantes e divergentes entre o texto em questão e o perÃodo da comediografia no qual ele se insere, objetivando perceber como o autor recebe e amolda tais elementos estéticos à s suas necessidades artÃsticas. Far-se-á para isso, antes de tudo, uma breve explanação acerca das principais caracterÃsticas que compõem a denominada Comédia Nova.
ASPECTS OF THE NEW COMEDY IN THE MOTHER-IN-LAW, BY TERENCE
Taking into account the aesthetic changes underwent by the classic comedy – from Aristophanes’s Old Comedy to Menander’s New Comedy, passing through the Middle Comedy – this article seeks to show consonant and divergent traces between the play The Mother in Law (Hecyra), by the Latin comedy writer Terence, and the period of comediography in which it belongs, in order to understand how the author receives and shapes such aesthetic elements according to his artistic needs. In order to achieve this goal, it will be done a brief explanation on the main characteristics that make up the so-called New Comedy.
