Este artigo tem como finalidade problematizar aspectos da metaficção historiográfica e estudar sua presença em As Brumas de Avalon, de Marion Zimmer Bradley, obra que narra a lenda do rei Artur de uma perspectiva feminina. Baseando-nos em A morte de Artur (1987) e A História do Mago Merlin (1989) destacamos elementos da metaficção historiográfica empregados na obra principalmente para questionar o papel da mulher na Idade Média, diante de uma sociedade extremamente patriarcal e cristã. Além disso, nosso estudo contextualiza o romance na indústria cultural, devido à visão mercadológica da escritora, e destaca, utilizando a crÃtica feminista, aspectos da literatura de autoria feminina.
The objective of this study was to discuss the historiographical metafiction aspects and to study their presence in the novel The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley, which tells the tale of King Arthur from a female perspective. Based on The Death of Arthur (1987) and The Story of Merlin (1989), the metafiction elements employed in the novel are highlighted, especially to question women’s role in the Middle Ages, an extremely patriarchal and Christian society. In addition to that, this study contextualizes the novel in the cultural industry, due to the author’s marketing vision, highlighting, based on a feminist review, aspects of female authorship.
