Este artigo objetiva a discussão acerca do registro civil, as implicações de sua ausência e a atuação da assistente social nas ações de registro tardio. Discorre sobre os aportes legais e simbólicos do registro civil. A metodologia utilizada se deu a partir de revisão bibliográfica e de dados da experiência de trabalho da autora como assistente social na Defensoria Pública do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Os achados apontam as múltiplas exclusões e vulnerabilidades relacionadas à ausência do registro.
Resumo Inglês:
This article aims to discuss civil registration, the implications of its absence and the role of a social worker in late registration actions. It discusses the legal and symbolic contributions of the name and its formalization in the birth registration. The methodology used was based on a literature review and data from the author's work experience as a social worker in the Public Defender's Office of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The findings point to multiple exclusions and vulnerabilities related to the absence of registration.
