A hepatite B é uma doença causada pelo vírus VHB, sendo considerada uma Infecção Sexualmente Transmissível (IST). O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da vacina contra hepatite B em estudantes e/ou profissionais da área da saúde da instituição de ensino de São José Do Rio Preto. Estudo qualitativo descritivo e exploratório, envolvendo 42 acadêmicos e/ou profissionais da área da saúde, nos quais se realizou análise de testes rápidos para hepatite B e aplicação de questionários. De todos os 42 participantes, apenas 5 resultados foram positivos; 32 negativos e 5 foram invalidados. Obteve-se uma porcentagem significativa de resultados sugestivos de falso negativo. Concluiu-se que são necessários estudos adicionais, os quais possibilitem a comprovação da soro-conversão Anti – HbsAg em indivíduos vacinados contra a Hepatite B utilizando outro material biológico como o soro.

Hepatitis B is a disease caused by the HBV virus and is considered a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the hepatitis B vaccine in students and/or health professionals from the teaching institution of São José Do Rio Preto. Qualitative descriptive and exploratory study, involving 42 academics and/or health professionals, in which rapid tests for hepatitis B and questionnaires, were applied. Of all 42 participants, only 5 results were positive; 32 negative and 5 were invalid. A significant percentage of results suggestive of false negative, was obtained. Concluded additional studies are needed, which allow the confirmation of serum Anti – HbsAg conversion in individuals in individuals vaccinated against Hepatitis B using other material biological as serum.
