Esse estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a intensidade da dor no ombro em atletas com deficiência física praticantes de modalidades esportivas coletivas. Para tanto, foi aplicado um questionário, baseado no Wheelchair User’s Shoulder Pain Index – WUSPI (CURTIS et al., 1995a; CURTIS et al., 1995b). Foram avaliados 17 atletas, dos quais 10 eram paraplégicos (59%) e 7, tetraplégicos (41%), sendo que desse total, 47,05% relataram ausência de dor no ombro, 29,41% relataram dor bilateral e 23,52%, dor unilateral. Quanto aos sujeitos que relataram presença de dor no ombro (n=9), 55,55% eram paraplégicos (n=5) e 44,44%, tetraplégicos (n=4). Em relação à dor, foi observado que 55,55% dessa foi relatada como esporádica e, 44,44% como crônica. De maneira concisa, podemos observar um número relativamente baixo de presença de dor no ombro na amostra estudada.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the shoulder pain intensity of disabled athletes that practice collective modalities. For this, a questionnaire containing, which was based on Wheelchair User’s Shoulder Pain Index – WUSPI (CURTIS et al., 1995a; CURTIS et al., 1995b), was applied. 17 subjects were evaluated, 10 of these were paraplegic (59%) and 7, tetraplegics (41%), of these total, 47,05% related shoulder pain absence, 29,41% related bilateral shoulder pain and 23,52%, unilateral shoulder pain. About the subjects that related shoulder pain presence (n=9), 55,55% were paraplegics (n=5) and 44,44%, were tetraplegics (n=4). As for the pain, we observed that 55,55% of was related as a sporadic pain, while 44,44% was related as a chronic pain. In a succinct way, we can observe a shoulder pain presence relatively low in our sample.
