Katherine Mansfield, com sua maneira intimista de escrever e de nos provocar reflexões acerca da similaridade entre nós e o que há de mais Ãntimo em seus personagens, apresenta, em seu conto Bliss, um dia na vida de Bertha Young. Neste conto, Bertha é tomada por um sentimento de “absoluto êxtase†que a faz desejar o seu marido – pois sua relação com ele era aparentemente formal – e inclusive outra mulher, sendo também levada a questionar as restrições impostas à s mulheres em sua sociedade. O objetivo do presente artigo é produzir uma breve análise dessa personagem tão cheia de nuances e tão passiva diante dos conflitos que vive.

Katherine Mansfield, with her intimate writing and way of bringing us reflections about the similarity between what is most intimate in its characters and us, presents, in Bliss, a day in the life of Bertha Young. In this short story, Bertha is taken by a feeling of “absolute bliss" that makes her desire her husband - whose relationship with her was apparently formal - and even another woman, also wondering about the restrictions imposed on women in her society. The aim of this article is to produce a brief analysis of this character so nuanced and passive in face of her own conflicts.
