The two-way optical telephony system consists of two telephone terminals interconnected via electro-optical converters - GaAs lasers and phototransistors, through a single multimode optical fiber. Simultaneous bidirectional transmission is possible due to the use of optical couplers in the link. In this article the system components are presented and their functions analyzed in detail.
