Há várias ligações históricas entre o Brasil e o Canadá, mas são muito pouco conhecidas. Em relação à imigração, sabemos que houve um grande fluxo de Europeus para as Américas durante o período das grandes migrações atlânticas do século XIX e início do século XX. No entanto, o fluxo dentro das Américas é muito pouco estudado, já que esse tipo de migração é identificado com a metade do século XX e num sentido único, ou seja, americanos do sul imigrando para a América do Norte. Em relação ao Brasil e ao Canadá, essa conexão é praticamente desconhecida. A realidade é que houve várias ligações migratórias entre os dois países desde meados do século XIX até os nossos dias.

Abstract: There are several historical links between Brazil and Canada, but they are not well known. In relation to migration, it is well known that there was a major flow of Europeans to the Americas during the time of the great transatlantic migrations. Yet, the flow within the Americas is not well known, as if there were no hemispheric stream within the transatlantic migration. This type of movement is mostly identified with the later part of the 20th century and in only one direction: South Americans moving to North America. As for Brazil and Canada, this connection is practically unknown. The reality is that there were significant migratory links between the two countries from the mid-19th century to the present day.

Résumé: Historiquement, les liens entre le Brésil et le Canada furent nombreux, mais ils sont méconnus. En termes de migration, nous connaissons l’important mouvement transatlantique de l’Europe vers les Amériques, mais pas les courants migratoires hémisphériques, c’est-à-dire intra-américains, avant les dernières décennies du 20e siècle. Cette migration contemporaine est unidirectionnelle, prenant place du Sud vers le Nord. Dans le cas du Brésil et du Canada, nous sommes en terra incognita, bien que les liens migratoires entre les deux pays depuis la deuxième moitié du 19e siècle aient été significatifs.
