O objetivo deste ensaio é analisar como Camilo Castelo Branco é representado na historiografia literária, desde o século XIX, com Teófilo Braga, passando por Fidelino de Figueiredo, António José Saraiva e Óscar Lopes e Massaud Moisés no século XX, até chegar aos dias de hoje. Por meio do estudo da história das histórias de literatura portuguesa, busca-se mostrar que houve poucas mudanças na abordagem sobre Camilo, o que contribuiu para a formação de uma imagem cristalizada do escritor, que tem efeitos deletérios na leitura e no ensino de sua obra, tanto em Portugal quanto no Brasil.
The objective of this essay is to analyze how Camilo Castelo Branco has been represented in literary historiography, from the 19th century, with Teófilo Braga, through Fidelino de Figueiredo, António José Saraiva and Óscar Lopes and Massaud Moisés in the 20th century, until the present day. We seek to show by the study of the history of Portuguese literary histories that there have been few changes in the approach to Camilo, which has contributed to the formation of a crystallized image of the writer, which has had deleterious effects on the reading and teaching of his work, in Portugal and in Brazil.
