m meados de 1966, lacerdistas, juscelinistas, janguistas e alguns comunistas ligados a Luis Carlos Prestes buscaram efetivar uma frente de oposição ao regime militar. Das negociações, nasce o Manifesto da Frente Ampla, em outubro de 1966. O manifesto, amplamente divulgado na imprensa nacional, pedia a volta da democracia no Brasil e o fim da ditadura de maneira pacÃfica e baseada na conciliação. A Frente Ampla foi fechada e proibida qualquer manifestação de apoio pelo governo militar nos primeiros meses 1968, que culminaria com o AI-5 e total fechamento do regime.
In mid-1966, Carlos Lacerda, Kubitschek and João Goulart political
followers and even some Communists, tried to make a united front of opposition to
military dictatorship. From their negotiations, in October 1966 was born the called
Manifesto of Broad Front. The document, full published at national press, aimed to
fight for the full restoration of democratic rule through peaceful means. The Broad
Front was closed and banned any expression of support by the government in early
1968 culminating with the completely political restraint by the military regime
