This article presents the experience of the SESI Barreiro team in the second stage of the Brazilian Cartography Olympiad, in 2021 IV Edition, organized by the Universidade Federal Fluminense, with the theme Science and Art. The proposal of the second stage was the development of practical tasks, divided into Phase 1 and Phase 2, with the objective of introducing Social Cartography in the educational environment, in the case of the SESI team with students from the 9th grade of Elementary School and 2nd grade of the High school. In this perspective, Phase 2 was chosen to be reported, as it was about the development of a collection of maps that showed the changes that occurred in a place through cartographic representations. We chose to research the municipality of Brumadinho, in Minas Gerais, due to its great importance in Brazilian mining and because it is where the Inhotim Institute is located - the largest open-air museum in the world and home to one of the most important collections of contemporary art in Brazil. – as well as the Córrego do Feijão Mine, highlighted after the collapse of the Vale company dam in 2019. From this approach, an intense work of historical investigation was carried out about the municipality, in the search for documents, reports and cartographic projections that could contribute to the project. Thus, the collection of maps of Brumadinho was carried out over the decades.
