As Cebs (Comunidades Eclesiais de Base) representam um importante momento na vida da Igreja. Essas comunidades organizadas a partir dos anos sessenta, expressam uma “nova maneira de ser Igrejaâ€, representando na prática uma tentativa de descentralização e democracia na arcaica estrutura dessa Instituição. A partir de sua organização em pequenos grupos comunitários, as Cebs articularam com eficiência a relação Fé e PolÃtica, constituindo-se num importante movimento organizativo e reivindicatório das classes populares, com papel destacado nas lutas pela redemocratização da sociedade brasileira, no contexto da Ditadura Militar.
The Cebs represents to the Catholic Church an important contribution. These communities started from 60´s and express a ´new way of being catholic´, representing with actions a new trying to decentralize the old structure of that institution. From its organization in small groups, the Cebs articuled efficiently the relationship between faith and policy and helped to take place an importation popular movement of organization and claim with remarkable influence on the fights for the democratization of the Brazilian society against the despotism of the military force.
