O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as transformações
econômicas, sociais e culturais no municÃpio de Santa
Rosa de Viterbo, São Paulo, durante o século XX e inÃcio
do século XXI, principalmente a partir da década de 1960.
Para isso, são apresentadas descrições de pequenas cidades
do interior pela literatura brasileira, a documentação selecionada
nas instituições locais e entrevistas com moradores.
Como resultados são discutidas as caracterÃsticas que
identifi cam Santa Rosa e, supostamente, cidades de pequeno
porte, além de possibilitar uma refl exão sobre a história
local.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the economic,
social and cultural transformations in Santa Rosa de Viterbo,
São Paulo, during the XX and early XXI centuries, mainly
from the decade of 1960. For this, are showed descriptions
of small inland towns within the Brazilian literature, documentation
selected in the local institutions and interviews
with residents. As results, the characteristics that identify
Santa Rosa and presumably small cities are discussed, besides
a refl ection on the local history is made.
