Este artigo analisa aspectos da trajetória do Cine-Theatro Capitólio, inaugurado em 1928, em Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, e hoje convertido em um centro de cultura, a Cinemateca Capitólio Fundacine-Petrobrás. O artigo relaciona a evolução arquitetônica do prédio ao longo do tempo e seus diversos usos com uma síntese da história do cinema e da organização urbana do perímetro central de Porto Alegre. O antigo palácio de cinema hoje reencontra sua vocação como lugar de memória.
This article analyzes aspects of the trajectory of the Cine-Theatro Capitólio, inaugurated in 1928, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, and today converted into a center of culture, the Fundacine-Petrobras Cinematheque. The article relates the architectural evolution of the building over time and its various uses with a synthesis of the history of cinema and the urban organization of the central perimeter of Porto Alegre. The old movie palace today finds its vocation as a place of memory.
