O objetivo desse artigo é
analisar como se configura o tema da
melancolia no conto “A queda da casa de
Usherâ€, de Edgar Allan Poe, levando-se
em consideração a construção espacial
e a caracterização das personagens
que habitam o espaço. Partiremos do
pressuposto de que a melancolia do lugar
claustrofóbico (a mansão) está associada Ã
melancolia das personagens e a descrição
espacial coincide com a descrição das
personagens.
The purpose of this article is
to analyze how the theme of melancholy
is configured in the short story “The
Fall of the House of Usherâ€, by Edgar
Allan Poe, taking into account the spatial
construction and the characterization of
the characters that live in that place. The
main point of our analysis is the hypothesis
that the melancholy of the claustrophobic
place (the house) is associated to the
melancholy of the characters and the
spatial description coincides with the
characters description.
